The Wolcott J. Humphrey III Symposium on Leadership and Community Life was created at Genesee Community College to honor the memory of Wolcott (Jay) Humphrey, a highly respected business and community leader after his unexpected death in 2001. Jay was president of Pavilion State Bank (now Five Star Bank, a regional financial services institution) and was active in numerous charitable and civic causes. At the time of his death, he was serving as chair of the Genesee Community College Board of Trustees. Jay saw himself as a change agent, and encouraged friends and colleagues throughout the region to develop leadership and change management skills.
An annual event sponsored by Genesee Community College, the Symposium features one or more distinguished speakers who bring the best of the world’s cutting-edge ideas to Western New York’s civic, business, and professional community. The Symposium gives participants the opportunity to hear, and interact with, speakers of national stature. More important, the event provides participants with tangible ideas and techniques they can use to build their organizations and their communities.
